What to Do

There are a few upcoming events around town that I wanted to highlight before it’s too late!  First of all, this Saturday (January 28th) is the 9th annual Mormon Battalion Commemoration in Old Town.  If you haven’t been to the museum, you really should check it out.  It’s a lot of fun!  But this weekend is the commemoration at Old Town State Historic Park from 10-3.  We have gone the last couple of years and really enjoyed it.  The Girl even got a pioneer costume for Christmas last year because she was so disappointed that she couldn’t dress up the year before.  There will be people there in period clothing with displays and activities for families and young children, including stories and music, crafts, food, dutch oven cook-off and more.  And best of all, it’s FREE! And just at tip: take the trolley.  Parking is no fun.  For more information, go here.

Also, February is Museum Month!  I’m really excited about this.  We only made it to one museum last year, but this year I plan on fully taking advantage of the great deals.  Many museums all over town are half off all month!  Pick up your pass at Macy’s and hit the museums!  For more information, go here.

One more deal I want to mention is Birch Aquarium.  In celebration of their 20th anniversary, if you visit the aquarium on the 20th of any month through September, you’ll get in for half price (with proof of San Diego County residency)!

Now get out there and have some fun!

Seaport Village

We spent Friday evening at Seaport Village. We have lived in San Diego for 3 1/2 years and Friday was the first time we have ever visited Seaport Village. How we have been here that long without ever going there, I’ll never know. I’ll tell you that it won’t be that long before we return again! We had a great time. It’s right on the bay so the views are spectacular, especially at sunset. There are a bunch of restaurants and little shops. The only one we even ventured into was the wooden toy shop.

It was such a cute little shop that it was hard to pry the kids away. There were a bunch of street performers too. We watched a fun magic show. We also saw a man balancing rocks which was very cool.

The kids favorite part, though, was the 108 year old carousel. The ride is $2 per person which was totally worth the price paid. And it paid for itself in the parking validation. Parking is $1 for every 15 minutes or $1 for up to 2 hours with validation. like I said, totally worth it. We had a great time. It was a fun last minute outing for our family. I hope we make it back soon!

Miramar Air Show

For some reason this never posted back in October when I actually wrote this. It’s a bit outdated but here you go.

We have been quite busy lately, and haven’t been able to go on many outings, thus the lack of posts. But yesterday, despite babysitting for a friend and having two 2-year-olds in tow, we braved the Miramar Air Show. If you’re able, it’s a great place to take your family this weekend. It’s free unless you want to sit in the grandstand. Bring some chairs and find a shady spot under a wing and watch the show!

The boys had a great time. There was lots of pointing and lots of, “woah!s”. Don’t forget your hats and sunscreen. I did and I was sorry.

But this is what I’m really doing this weekend: eating cinnamon rolls and listening to a prophet.

Beach

Have you been to the beach lately? Things have been busy around here. In fact, we haven’t even been around here much lately, hence the lack of posts. But we got back from vacation Tuesday night and on Wednesday we put all responsibilities on hold so we could go to the beach. The surf was up so The Hubby surfed while the kids and I played. The weather was perfect. Then we headed to the cove to see some wildlife. There was no parking until we got to the children’s pool so we explored there and picked up some lunch at In N Out in Pacific Beach. It was the least crowded In N Out I have ever been to. It was a great day! Now get out to the beach before it gets cold again!
